NWU welcomes Japanese students for English Camp 2024
The College of Teacher Education (CTE), in coordination with the Basic Education Department (BED), hosted six Japanese students to participate in this year’s English Camp from February 13-23, 2024.
Led by CTE Acting Dean Juan Jobelle Acosta, the foreign students were welcomed at the Exhibit Room on February 13. Various activities were conducted immediately after the orientation, including personal introductions, introduction to their affinity buddies, verbal ability tests, basic greetings and common phrases, practice greetings in pairs and group activities, and classroom observations in the BED.
The students are Soma Nakano, Nina Matsubara, Shun Tamura, Koko Horino, Akinori Kishi, Naho Washio, all from Keiai University in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. They were accompanied by Mr. Shigeru Koda, a professor from Keia University.
The camp offers 10 days of extensive English and literature immersion, as well as experiences in Ilocano culture and landmarks in the region. This is the 8th English Camp.
To enhance the learning experience, the Japanese students were paired with affinity buddies, who are NWU students, during their stay at the university.
Furthermore, the campers were also involved in teaching activities in the Basic Education Department, culinary exposure with culinary students, and guest appearances on the U-Radio.
The Japanese students will graduate from the English Camp on February 23.
This activity is integrated with the culmination of their learning, as they present renditions of English poems, short skits, or acting demonstrations, concluding with a final socialization with their peers at the university
