New Mister and Miss Northwestern University start reign

It was a night of splendor and wit!

January 30, 2020 – The Victoria-Secret-themed stage at the Aquino Multi-Purpose Center became the battleground of 16 hopefuls for Mr. and Miss Northwestern University 2020 as they strutted their way to the crown. Ralph Lester A. Quiñones (COME) and Norraine Gayle G. Almarez (COBE) were hailed Mr. and Miss Northwestern University 2020. Laurene Aldrin R. Guzon (CEAT) and Genelene N. Acebedo (CAHS); Karl Justin D. Taasan (SHS) and Ana Thea P. Bayudan (CEAT); Allen Vince T. Marcos (CTE) and Childe Mi Amor B. Sales (CCJE), were awarded first, second and third runners-up, respectively.

   

The pageant was battled out by eight male and eight female candidates from the different colleges of the university. With their supporters energetically cheering, they pranced with confidence in the Production Number, Swimwear Competition, and Formal Wear Competition. Norraine Gayle G. Almarez of COBE and Laurene Aldrin Guzon (CEAT) were awarded Best Performers (the first won Best in Swimwear and the latter, Best in Formal Wear, as well). The male Best in Swimwear was Ralph Lester A. Quiñones (COME), and the female Best in Formal Wear was Jesiree Aprille S. Acosta (SHS).

From 16, only eight candidates advanced to the Q and A round, where they were asked to give their take on a question related to the theme of the celebration, “In Pursuit of Excellence.” When asked how she can help Northwestern University, here was Miss NWU’s answer:

“As a student, I think my great contribution to our Northwestern University is to sincerely apply the core values of Northwestern University by being committed to excellence, being honest, active, (knowing) how to manage our time and resources…also, being professional, and serve selflessly, because when we apply these core values, surely that we will excel in our university.”

During the pre-pageant held last January 27, they delivered remarkable performances in the Talent Competition, and displayed their articulateness in the Mental and Verbal Challenge. Two of the outstanding performances were the aesthetic indigenous dance from Mr. CTE Allen Vince T. Marcos, and the amazing song performance from Miss CEAT Ana Thea Bayudan, both awarded Best in Talent. The latter was also awarded Most Witty, as well as CAS male candidate Kenneth John Reyes, as they best demonstrated eloquence in answering casual questions during the preliminaries.

This year’s selection committee was composed of Mister International 2018 Mark Kevin Janda Baloaloa, Miss Earth Air 2018 Melanie Sun Mader, 2006 and 2008 National Tourism Presidential Awards of Excellence recipient Dr. Rafael Duhaylungsod, teacher-turned-content-creator and influencer Mamshie Ronan Joseph Domingo, Vertext CEO and City Councilor Hon. Handy Lao, BPO Country Manager Cathrine Nova Bombase, and Mr. Laoag 2018 Jego Nacnac.
Adding up to the excitement of the event, ABS CBN’s I Can See Your Voice 2018 (group edition) winner, Boyz Impact, serenaded the loud crowd, with their soul-catching renditions of Michael Pangilinan’s “Bakit Ba Ikaw,” Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You,” and a mashup of Erik Santos’ “I’ll Never Go and Say You’ll Never Go.”
