All is fair in NWU 20/20 Fair!
Spearheaded by the Senior High School Department, the 20/20 Fair took place in Northwestern University, January 29-31, in celebration of its 88th founding anniversary. It was cleverly termed by Mr. Spider Rodas, PRIO, since it is the year 2020, and all the commodities and services from all booths cost Php20, the first in history. The fair was initiated to create a greater connection between faculty, students, and other colleges. Surprisingly, this year, the university had the largest fair crowd ever.
The basic education department, different sections of the high school department, and all colleges actively played their parts in putting up their own booths. These creative booths included the speed-dating booth, thrift shop, karaoke booth, snacks booth, “throw your stress” booth, Tamiya race booth, photo exhibit booth, photobooth, among others, all for Php20.
Ms. Jenny Abadilla, overall in-charge of the Foundation Celebration and key motivator of the fair, stated that the idea of the activity was created a few years ago, and thought it was high time for the university to have that kind of fair.
“The concept of the fair is that we wanted not only the students, but also the employees, the teachers, the faculty, to mingle—to have the opportunity to talk, to work with each other, on a casual basis. It is an opportunity for the students to get to know other people and the school, because sometimes, the students are only aware of the teachers in their own colleges. It is also to activate the participation of the alumni,” she noted, further sharing her plans of continuing the fair in the university oval, creating a bigger, better and more exciting founding anniversary next year, and holding more competitions for students in terms of the arts, since she believes that it is what Northwesternians are most inclined to.
The JAMSTART (Start of Something NWU) concert and a fireworks display during the first day made the 20/20 Fair experience different and more memorable, signaling the opening of the celebration. The show’s title came from “jumpstart,” marking the beginning of a new tradition for Northwesternians, encouraging the students and employees to showcase impressive talents.
