NWU student leaders take their oaths in an online ceremony
Northwestern University newly-elected officers from different colleges, organizations, and interest clubs, in line with the Supreme Student Council (SSC), took their oath of responsibility in a virtual ceremony via Facebook Live on February 5, 2021.
As the academic year started, these students have chosen to render selfless service amid new challenges, responsibilities, and opportunities in the new normal.
Mr. Willie Jake B. Sib-at, the Youth Development Officer III of the Ilocos Norte Youth Development Office, was the Keynote Speaker and Inducting Officer.
Prof. Josephine G. Bolusan, University Vice President for Finance, shared six leadership principles. “First, keep good company. Second, have an accurate vision and remain focused, no matter what the obstacles are. Third, do not rely on your past successes; keep looking for new frontiers to conquer. Fourth, face your challenges head-on; Fifth, as leaders, you need to grow and develop; leave your comfort zone, there is no growth there. And lastly, rise above mediocrity and the status quo.”
Also, the University Executive Vice President and University Vice President for Administration, Prof. Ma. Liza S. Nicolas, discoursed on five characteristics of future and new generation leaders: competence, courage, clarity, coaching, and character.
University President Atty. Ferdinand S. Nicolas congratulated the newly elected officers saying, “Being a leader, being given the responsibility of leading others, is a position of service rather than of privilege.”
“Be passionate, be selfless, and be adaptable. As a youth leader, we should continue to create safe spaces for our fellow youth,” Sir Willie Jake said. “Together, let us prove that this is the generation that can end poverty, this is the generation that can innovate governance, this is the generation that can give a possible solution to the aging problems of society.”
