NWU mounts Freshmenia 2021
The NWU Guidance Center, Office of the Student Affairs, Saguday Performing Arts Group, and Supreme Student Council launched Freshmenia 2021 via Facebook live on October 8, 2021 with this academic year’s theme: “Reboot, Rewire, Reconquer: Taking Hold Of Your Future.” This year’s Freshmenia subtitle is “Here We Go Again,” as it is the second Freshmen Orientation program within the pandemic period.
The Saguday Chorale started the new normal get-together through a doxology and University President Atty. Ferdinand S. Nicolas followed with his Welcome Remarks. He expressed his deepest gratitude as he greeted newbies of the NWU family. He also mentioned the hard work and sacrifices of the employees to provide quality education for the students in the new normal.
“I encourage you to be self-motivated, to reach for your dreams, to keep your vision for the future as your focus so that even if we are encountering challenges, we can overcome this because of our passion and commitment,” Atty. Nicolas said.
Rashed Daniel Reyes and Ana Mae Manuel, both NWU alumni, led the virtual tour starting from the steps on how to get in and out of the university through the COVID-19 Automated Registration and Log-in for Students (Carl-S). Dr. Emma Joy Bareng, the University Physician, took the lead in sharing what the Medical Clinic has to offer for the students, followed by Dr. Pedrico Chellie Calaycay, for the Dental Clinic; Ms. Cynthia C. Medrano, for the Registrar’s Office; Prof. Josephine G. Bolusan for the Finance Office; Mr. Christopher Viloria for Center for Information and Communication Technology (CICT); Mrs. Nora V. Clemente for the Educational Resource Center (ERC); Ms. Stephanie Marie P. Valiente for Guidance Center; and Prof. Agustina A. Dancel-Matias for the Office of Student Affairs (OSA).
Dr. Chita A. Gonzales, Vice President for Academic Affairs, talked about the accomplishments and the academic programs of the university that are highly recognized. She also highlighted the substantial role of faculty in managing flexible learning approaches especially in this time of difficulties.
The virtual Freshmenia theme carried an ’80s vibe where the Saguday Performing Arts Group, including faculty members from the different offices, grooved with the Abba song Mamma Mia.
Aside from the student services, different talents of the Saguday Chorale, Saguday Dancers, NWU After 5, NWU Tamboreros were also showcased. Mr. Spider Rodas, University PIO/PRO and Ms. Almay Minka R. Gamayon, clinical instructor, also performed a duet at the latter part of the event.
The virtual Freshmenia was hosted by Ms. Therese Zsa Raval-Torres, Executive Assistant to the University President and Prof. Ancher Anthony A. Cua IV, Acting Marketing Officer of Northwestern University.
