COBE celebrates Business Education Month
Northwestern University College of Business Education celebrated its Business Education Month virtually during their COBE Week from December 7-10 2021. It was spearheaded by the College of Business Education Students Organization (COBESO).
With the theme “Together Towards Tomorrow.” Prof. Louelyn Tabili, Hospitality and Tourism Management Department Instructor and COBESO Adviser, said that the four-day celebration “aimed to help the students and the community to spread knowledge in the field of business, to boost their skills and talents at different events in order for them to be globally competitive, and to [improve] their camaraderie.”
The series of activities commenced with an Opening Program and the “Life After Lockdown: Anxiety and Wellbeing,” a mental health roundtable discussion in partnership with Junior Chamber International (JCI) Makati. The said discussion was joined in by three panelists: Mr. Joseph Orinion, Motivational Speaker; Mr. Nic Satur, Jr., United Nations Sustainable Development Group (UNSDG) Advocate; and Mr. JM Moyaen, Financial Consultant.
On the second day, the college crowned its Mister and Miss COBE 2021—Reig Janncen Labaro and Auvielle Domingo—both from the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA). Mark Dave Miguel and Kimberly Remigio, Richard Onin Longgay and Ira Monique Fiesta, and Chrystler Korte Asuncion and Xyra Joy Landero, were the runners-up, respectively.
Student representatives from different departments of the college also participated in various competitions including Impromptu Speech Competition, Best Innovative Product Competition, Spoken Poetry, EduTiktok, Mobile Photography Contest, COBE’s Got Talent, and Cybergames, among others, during the third day.
As a culminating activity, the college hosted the first Philippine-wide Business Case Competition where the top three teams from different universities in the country competed for the final round. Mariano Marcos State University emerged as Champion, and Camarines Polytechnic College and University of St. Louis Tuguegarao, placed first and second runners-up, respectively.
Highlights of the above events were the Innovative Product Competition where the students showcased their unique concepts of innovative products, and the Business Case Competition where the same exhibited their expertise in analyzing a business problem.
As part of the celebration, COBE also launched its Laboratory Cooperative, which aims to provide a venue for the students to establish their own cooperatives, and to equip them with hands-on training on cooperative management.
“The COBE Week celebration ignites its students to work together towards tomorrow. Despite this pandemic and the setbacks of life, we will still manage to move forward if we work hand-in-hand with each other,” said Mark Eldrick Duabe, COBESO President.
