NWU holds 7th English Bootcamp with Japanese Students
Northwestern University conducted the 7th English Camp with Japanese students, with the facilitation of Prof. Jobelle S. Acosta with the collaboration of English teachers from College of Teacher Education, College of Arts and Sciences and the Basic Education Department on February 27 to March 4, 2023 at the Exhibit room.
The university opened its gates for its 7th batch of Japanese students after two years of hiatus due to the global pandemic. There were students assigned to each Japanese student as an affinity buddy. The activities targeted their four macro skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. Teachers from the CAS and CTE conducted classes for the Japanese students. The Japanese students also had their teaching demonstration and actual teaching at the Basic Education Department.
Japanese students also tour around the province in Fort Ilocandia Resort, Vigan City, University Ecopark, La Virgen Milagrosa, Bangui Windmills, and Kapurpurauan beach. In addition, there was a culinary exposure and exchange between the culinary arts students and the Japanese students and an interview at the U-radio. The camp ended with a Culminating Activity as the Japanese students rendered their English Poem rendition, acting demonstration, and giving of certificate participation.
The English BootCamp served as an inclusive place for the Japanese students to learn the English language as well as English-major-students to apply their theoretical knowledge of teaching. As Prof. Juan Jobelle S. Acosta puts it “ I am very grateful for the Japanese students that chose Northwestern University as their hub to learn the English language. Also, I am delighted to witness my students to grow in applying their knowledge and skills in helping, interacting and engaging with the Japanese students.”
