NWU Celebrates Intercultural Week 2024: Fostering Cultural Resilience and Gender Inclusivity with AFS Collaboration
In celebration of Intercultural Week 2024, NWU AFS School Club, the Supreme Student Council, and the Office of Student Affairs conducted the program entitled, “Pioneering the Future through Cultural Resilience and Gender Inclusivity.” This event, held on February 7, 2024 at Apolinario Aquino Multipurpose Center, in collaboration with the AFS PHI National Chapter, aimed to enhance understanding, ideas, and skills across cultures while promoting awareness and respect for cultural diversity.
The AFS School Club introduced its history and purpose, cultural diversity within the university, and the ways it achieves the goal of binding academic aspects of this country and other nations. Professor Agustina Matias, Acting Dean of the Office of Student Affairs, spoke about the history of AFS with Northwestern University that began in 2016 during AFS’s 60th celebration in Manila. At that time, the National Chapter of AFS extended invitations to various schools, which included NWU. Since then, the university has forged a Memorandum of Agreement with AFS Philippines and has been able to receive participants from all over the world. According to Professor Matias, this is in addition to NWU hosting participants from Japan, Germany, Italy, Belgium. Canada, USA, India et al.
Nicole Borganavi, an AFS Grade 12 Student, presented the cultures of Italy and its cities. She showcased the places where various occasions are celebrated, while also taking pride in its food, designs, dances, and many more.
The college students showed keen interest in the AFS programs discussed during the Zoom meeting. Ms. Jai Vintayon, Program manager of AFS, one of the speakers, elaborated on the programs and goals of the AFS Team.
AFS intercultural program that develops active global citizens determined to make the world a better place and create impact. This empowers people to grow and transform by exploring cultural differences, enabling them to appreciate the importance of cultural diversity.
