NWU English Camp hosted Foreign Students

Northwestern University welcomed the third batch of the English Camp students hailing from Keiai University and Tokyo Futures University in Japan. They were composed of 9 Japanese students and one Chinese student. The two-week long camp was held on August 28 to September 7, 2018.
The students improved their English speaking skills through a series of class sessions, simulations, and field trips in Ilocos Norte, including a trip to Vigan, Ilocos Sur. They were also treated to a cultural show performed by the Saguday and Sardam Performing Arts Group showcasing performances.
The English Camp students, in turn, taught Northwesternians how to cook Takoyaki and craft origami figurines. The program culminated with speech choir presentations by the students and individual speeches on their experiences during the camp.

The on-campus sessions and off-campus activities provided the students with a mix of classroom learning and cultural exposure that is designed to enable them to develop their English communication skills in a variety of experiences. The program was created by Dr. Maricon M. Guillermo, CAS Dean, with contributions from university consultant Mr. Marshall Josue and the University President, Atty. Ferdinand S. Nicolas.
The delegation was led by Mr. Shigeru Koda, together with Keiai University Prof. Shigeru Inoue. The next English Camp of the university is scheduled for February 2019.
