II. ACADEMIC REGULATIONS

1. Academic Load
The academic load and sequence of subjects assigned to students or the maximum number of units shall be based on the approved curriculum for each degree program. For exceptional cases, a graduating student may be allowed to carry an additional load of six (6) units, provided, that is the student’s last semester prior to graduation. (Sec.90 and Sec. 92, Art. XIX, MORPHE)
Intensive Review subjects, PE, NSTP, and Euthenics are not included in the computation of the maximum number of academic units allowed.

2. Class Period
A class normally covers three (3) lecture hours per week. If it is a laboratory class, one (1) laboratory unit is equivalent to three (3) hours per week.

3. Attendance
Classroom attendance of students is closely monitored. Absences are governed by the following policies:
a. In consonance with the provisions of the Manual of Regulations for Private Schools, a student who incurs absences of more than ten (10) hours or twenty percent (20%) of the prescribed number of lecture/laboratory class hours before midterm examination, shall be dropped and not be given credit for the course or subject. (Sec.101, Art.XX1 MORPHE)
After the midterm examination, a student who incurs absences of more than ten (10) hours or twenty percent (20%) of the prescribed number of lecture/laboratory class hours shall be failed.
b. A faculty member may exempt a student who incurs absences beyond the twenty percent (20%) limit, but with the approval of proper University authorities. The faculty member shall report student absences to the concerned Dean for appropriate action.
c. Any student who incurs three (3) consecutive absences in any one-hour/day a week class, or two (2) consecutive absences in any 0ne-and-a-half/day a week class, shall be reported to the Dean concerned and shall not be admitted without an excuse slip duly signed by the Dean.
The above guideline also applies to any student who incurs six (6) accumulated absences in any one-hour/day a week class, or four (4) accumulated absences in any one-and-a-half hour/day a week class.
d. Any student who continues to absent himself/herself after having been re-admitted to class shall be reported to the Dean concerned, who, in turn, shall refer the same to the Dean of Student Affairs. The student shall undergo counseling by the Guidance Counselor whenever necessary. The student shall not be re-admitted to class without an excuse slip duly signed by the Dean of Student Affairs.

4. Make-up Classes
Students are required to attend approved make up classes depending on the need of the course. Make-up classes must however be pre-arranged to avoid conflicts in schedule.

5. Residency
A student is required to finish an academic program within the prescribed number of semesters as defined in the chosen program of study. However, the school allows a student enrolled in a four or five year-curriculum to finish the program within a maximum period of seven (7) and eight (8) years, respectively.
Failure to finish the program within a maximum period set shall be subject to retention policies of the college concerned and the University.

6.Examination
There are three (3) major examinations which every student must take during a semester: preliminary, midterm and final examinations. During the summer term, onlymidterm and final examinations are administered. Schedules of periodic examinations (prelims, midterm and finals) are provided in the Academic Calendar with contents noted by the CHED Regional Office.
A permit is required before a student can take any major examinations. Upon checking on the student’s online account that he/she had been cleared of any obligations and upon presenting the official receipt for the payment of his/her account balance, the Finance Office shall issue a permit and/or upload the same to the portal of the requesting student. The permit must be presented before a student is allowed to take any examination. The instructor/proctor must check and sign the examination permit of the student and put it on record accordingly.
The schedule for administering examination should be strictly followed. The faculty member is mandated to return corrected examination booklets to the students in the preliminary and midterm examinations and inform them of their term grades within ten (10) days after the last examination day.
F.1. Special Examination
Any examination not administered on the scheduled dates of the prelims and the midterm examinations is considered a special examination. This is given when failure to take the examination is due to valid reasons as determined by the concerned Dean. Special examination shall be scheduled upon approval and upon payment of prescribed fee to the Finance Office, within the week after the set periodic examination. No special examination shall be set after final examinations.

7. Retention in the Program
Any student who failed fifty percent (50%) or more of his/her total units during the last two semesters for the first time may be retained in the same program only under the following conditions:
a. The student shall secure and accomplish a promissory form that he /she will improve his/her academic performance.
b. The Dean may reduce the student’s maximum load as he/she deems fit and signs the form.
c. The student will be referred to the Guidance Center for interview and the latter affixes his /her signature.
d. Duly-accomplished form
A student who failed fifty percent (50%) or more of his/her total units for the third time shall be advised by the Dean, as recommended by the program head, to shift to another program.

8. Leave of Absence (LOA)
A leave of absence (LOA) is defined as a temporary separation from the University applied for by a student who needs to suspend his/her academic progress. He/she may avail of any of these three types of LOA- Medical Leave of Absence: For students who due to a physical or mental health need must temporarily interrupt progress toward his/her degree
Family Leave of Absence: For students who must temporarily interrupt progress toward degree to extend absence post-childbirth, care for a newborn, adopt a child, or care for a family member.
No fees shall be collected to any of the NSTP component except basic tuition fee which is not more than fifty percent (50%) of the charges of the school per academic unit (Excerpts from NSTP program).
Students who finished NSTP 1 and 2 shall receive a Certificate of Completion.

9. Affiliation/Internshio/Practicum/ On-the-job Training
A student shall be allowed to undergo affiliation / internship / practicum / on-the-job training/apprenticeship if one or more of the following requirements are met:
a. completed all prerequisite subjects with no incomplete grade incurred; and
b. completed academic requirements with no incomplete grade incurred.
