V. GRADUATION
A. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
All candidates for graduation shall file their application at the Registrar’s Office not later than 30 days before the end of the regular term and 15 days before the end of the summer term.
A student shall graduate upon completion of the following requirements:
1. Compliance with all the academic, non-academic, and other requirements of the program;
2. Residence in the university for at least one (1) year before graduation for those carrying full load; and
3. Settlement of all financial and property obligations to the university.
B. GRADUATING WITH HONORS
The following honors are awarded to graduating students who shall meet the requirements of academic average, length of residence and academic load.
General Weighted Average (GWA) Requirements
1. Summa Cum Laude – With a GWA of 1.0- 1.25, with no grade lower than 1.50 in all subjects; no grade or mark of 5.0, Incomplete or Dropped;
2. Magna Cum Laude – With a GWA of 1.26 -1.50, with no grade lower than 1.75 in all subjects; no grade or mark of 5.0, Incomplete or Dropped;
3. Cum Laude – With a GWA of 1.51 – 1.75, with no grade lower than 2.0 in all subjects; no grade or mark of 5.0, Incomplete or Dropped;
4. Special Academic Award – With a GWA of 1.75 or higher, with a grade lower than 2.0 in all subjects; no grade or mark of 5.0, Incomplete or Dropped;
5. Cum Distinction (for Vocational / Technical graduates) – With a GWA of 1.75 or higher (with no grade lower than 2.0 in all subjects; no grade or mark of 5.0, Incomplete or Dropped.
A candidate for honors who meets the GWA prescribed but deficient in the grade requirement of all subject will be awarded the next lower academic honor.
Grades earned in subjects which are not included in a particular curriculum will not be considered in the computation of the general average for academic honor.
C. LENGTH OF RESIDENCE AND ACADEMIC LOAD
A candidate for Summa Cum Laude and Magna Cum Laude must have full residence at Northwestern University.
A candidate graduating with Cum Laude and Special Academic Award must have at least two (2) years academic residence or have earned one-half (1/2) of the required number of units in the university.
A candidate for honors must have finished the course he/she is enrolled within the prescribed number of semesters as defined in the program of studies; overstaying in the program will disqualify him/her. Moreover, the candidate should have carried the number or units assigned to each semester in the program of studies he/she is enrolled.
D. RECOGNITION AWARDS
The University gives recognition to every student for exemplary performance in non-curricular activities to inspire him/her, to help develop his/her total development and promote meaningful and relevant experiences in his/her campus life.
To qualify to any of the awards, a student nominee must meet the following requirements:
a. A bonafide student;
b. No failing grades, dropped subjects and has not incurred any incomplete grade during the current year;
c. Only activities participated in during the current year will be considered;
d. A student maybe nominated to any of the following extra-curricular awards but not limited to:

1.1 Leadership Award
1.2 Journalism Award
1.3 Cadet of the Year
1.4 Performing Arts Award
1.5 Athlete of the Year
1.6 Special Awards
1.6.1Most Outstanding College Organization Officer
1.6.2 Most Outstanding Interest Club Officer
2. Awards for Student Organizations
2.1. Most Outstanding College Organization
2.2. Most Outstanding Interest Club
3. Other Awards that the designated Selection Committee will deem timely and relevant.
